چکیده

The paper discuses a new fundamental result in the theory of flow networks referred to as the ‘dual network theorem for static flow networks’. The theorem states that the maximum throughput flow in any static network is equal to the sum of the capacities of the edges coming out of the source, minus the total excess flow at all excess nodes, plus the maximum throughput flow in the dual network. For very few imbalanced nodes in a flow network, determining the throughput flow in the dual network is a task significantly easier than determining the throughput flow in the original network. This creates the basis of a very efficient algorithm for maximising the throughput flow in a network, by maximising the throughput flow in its dual network. Consequently, a new algorithm for maximising the throughput flow in a network has been proposed. For networks with very few imbalanced nodes, in the case where only the maximum throughput flow is of interest, the proposed algorithm will outperform any classical method for determining the maximum throughput flow. In this paper we also raise awareness of a fundamental flaw in classical algorithms for maximising the throughput flow in static networks with directed edges. Despite the years of intensive research on static flow networks, the classical algorithms leave undesirable directed loops of flow in the optimised networks. These directed flow loops are associated with wastage of energy and resources and increased levels of congestion in the optimised networks. Consequently, an algorithm is also proposed for discovering and removing directed loops of flow in networks.

Analysis and Comparison of Load Flow Methods for Distribution Networks Considering Distributed Generation

Conventional passive distribution networks are changing to modern active distribution networks which are not radial. Conventional load flow methods should be modified for new distribution networks analysis. In modern distribution networks distributed generation (DG) units are embedded with conventional and/or renewable resources. DG units are generally modeled as PV or PQ nodes which inject ...

"Technical Report" Performance Comparison of IHACRES Model and Artificial Neural Network to Predict the Flow of Sivand River

The accurate determination of river flow in watersheds without sufficient data is one of the major challenges in hydrology. In this regard, given the diversity of existing hydrological models, selection of an appropriate model requires evaluation of the performance of the hydrological models in each region. The objective of this study was to compare the performance of artificial neural network ...

Application of Artificial Neural Networks for Analysis of Flexible Pavements under Static Loading of Standard Axle

In this study, an artificial neural network was developed in order to analyze flexible pavement structure and determine its critical responses under the influence of standard axle loading. In doing so, more than 10000 four-layered flexible pavement sections composed of asphalt concrete layer, base layer, subbase layer, and subgrade soil were analyzed under the impact of standard axle loading. P...

Reliable Flow Control Coding in Low-Buffer Grid Networks

We consider a grid network where nodes contain small buffers. A packet that faces a crowded buffer in its route will get extra latency and may be dropped. In this paper, we propose a novel flow control protocol called RFCC for grid networks. RFCC tries to reroute delayed packets and utilizes network coding to introduce a configurable amount of redundant information in the network, thereby incre...
